About the Author

Mary Pieper is a freelance writer who loves reading, baking, history, and travel. Her family moved to Iowa when she was 3, and she has lived there ever since. She grew up in Marshalltown, went to college in Cedar Falls, and was a journalist for newspapers in Tama/Toledo, Boone, Storm Lake, and Sheldon before moving to Mason City to accept a job as a reporter for the Globe Gazette. Mary got to know the food scene in those communities and has eaten at restaurants in other parts of the Hawkeye State while on vacation or visiting relatives. She's also enjoyed the cuisine in Chicago, New York City, and Italy but still loves the food in her home state.
